Stand 15–16, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, 22–24 September 2026
FLIR's new ISO 7240-29 certified thermal AI fire detection technology represents a major breakthrough in tunnel safety by fundamentally changing how fires are detected and managed. Unlike traditional fire detection systems, which typically require a fire to grow sufficiently large before heat reaches the tunnel ceiling and triggers an alarm, FLIR detects the actual flame itself at the source. This enables reliable fire detection in less than 10 seconds, long before a developing fire reaches its critical growth phase.
A second revolutionary advantage is precise fire localization of the flames directly in the image, allowing operators and emergency responders to immediately understand where intervention is required.
The fire solution is further strengthened using thermal imaging technology which can continue to operate effectively through smoke and darkness, maintaining detection capability and providing critical situational awareness when visibility is most compromised. This allows tunnel operators to monitor evolving incidents, guide evacuation procedures, and support firefighting operations during the most dangerous stages of a fire.
“By combining ultra-fast flame detection, precise fire localization, long-range coverage, and the ability to see through smoke, FLIR has introduced a step change in tunnel fire safety.” said Stefaan Pinck, Vice President Business Development ITS, Teledyne FLIR.
The Summit runs under the theme “Connected Transport for Now and Tomorrow”. “Our customers run some of the most demanding road and tunnel projects in Australia. Working with Teledyne FLIR lets us put certified detection in front of them and support it locally, from design through to commissioning and service.” said Courtney Ryan, Chief Executive Officer, Armitage Group.
On the stand,Teledyne FLIR intelligent transportation solutions on demonstration, with Teledyne FLIR and Armitage Group specialists on hand for technical discussion:
- Teledyne FLIR TrafiBot Dual AI — multispectral 4K CCTV camera combining visible and thermal imaging for automatic incident detection (AID), traffic data collection and early fire detection in road tunnels. Certified to ISO 7240-29 for flame detection.
- Teledyne FLIR TrafiBot AI — 4K optical AID camera with embedded AI and Teledyne FLIR’s patented 3D world tracker, detecting stopped vehicles, fallen objects, wrong-way drivers and sudden lane changes.
- Teledyne FLIR ThermiCam AI — thermal sensor with on-board AI for vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian detection at intersections, in darkness and in adverse weather.
- Teledyne FLIR TrafiCam AI — edge-AI traffic detection camera with embedded video analytics for vehicle counting, classification, queue length measurement, and adaptive traffic signal control, delivering accurate traffic data without road surface sensors.
- Teledyne FLIR LaneCom V — advanced traffic controller interface unit that collects, processes, and distributes real-time traffic detector data, enabling adaptive traffic management, signal optimization, and seamless integration with intelligent transportation systems (ITS).
- Teledyne FLIR Cascade — traffic management software that collects data from up to 300 connected cameras and sensors, filtering incidents so operators see only what matters.
- Early fire detection for tunnels and transport infrastructure — thermal detection of vehicle and battery overheating before combustion, for high-airflow environments where smoke disperses too quickly for conventional detectors to respond reliably.
Teledyne FLIR and Armitage Group representatives are on the stand for all three days. To arrange a demonstration, a project discussion or a media briefing on the certification, contact Stefaan Pinck: Stefaan.Pinck@Teledyne.com or Ken Holt: Ken.Holt@Teledyne.com
